Client Success: Sioux City, IA

Upgrades Technology and Creates Award-Winning Zoning and Sign Code

In 2013, our parent firm, Kendig Keast Collaborative (KKC), was hired by the city to create a Zoning and Sign Code (ZSC). Their goal was to find a solution for implementing the city’s plans, integrating the design guidelines in the form of deliberate standards, sustainable development practices, better-accommodating infill and redevelopment projects, protecting the value and integrity of existing neighborhoods, and organizing it in a manner that is easier to understand and use.

During this writing process, enCodePlus was chosen to facilitate the drafting, adoption, and display of the ZSC. Soon after the ZSC was adopted, the city’s full City Charter and Code of Ordinances were also added to the platform creating an intuitive, accessible, and searchable interface for these important documents. Nearly a decade later, the online code portal still serves the fine community of Sioux City, IA.

“Sioux City’s Zoning and Sign Code was awarded the Iowa Chapter APA Best Practice Award, 2015.”
