Enhancing Accessibility: Merced County Utilizes enCodePlus for User-Friendly Zoning Ordinance Access

Since 2016, the largely rural region of Merced County has been using enCodePlus to make their Zoning Ordinance more accessible to their citizens. The software system allows for the convenient presentation of Title 17, Subdivisions, and Title 18, Zoning Code, separately from the rest of their Code of Ordinances. An eReader is provided for users who prefer to read the documents in a book-like format. In addition, a variety of links to other plans and resources help users find the information they need.

Merced County’s Zoning Code is made even more accessible through the availability of three development calculators. Visitors to the site are able to use these calculators to help them determine the parking, sign, and/or landscaping requirements for a specific project without having to interpret complicated zoning regulations on their own. Incorporating enCodePlus has empowered citizens with user-friendly tools and resources, streamlining the process of understanding and applying complex zoning regulations for their projects.

“Development calculators help save County staff time by enabling users to find specific requirements for actual projects. Staff then just has to review the applications for correctness!”
